The
Western Maryland Rail Trail - Hancock Station ZERO
miles from Hancock.
A paved bike path that originally extended from Hancock to Fort
Frederick 11 miles to the east. In June of 2002, another nine miles
were added extending the trail west to Polly's Pond. It's absolutely
beautiful, and great for level-walker hiking and roller blading
as well. (Photo to the right shows a family from Eastern Maryland
visiting Hancock to try out the newly opened extension to the west.)

The C&O
Canal ZERO miles from Hancock.
Travel to Cumberland to the west, or Georgetown, Washington DC to
the east. But if you're not camping along the way, make a day's
trip using the C&O Canal towpath in one direction, and return
to Hancock using the Rail Trail.
